St. Mary’s public schools are considering a change that could bring more money to athletic programs through corporate sponsorship, including possibly hanging advertisement signs at athletic fields.
In 1998, the St. Mary’s County Board of Education changed its policy to essentially ban advertisement signs from businesses at athletic fields. The issue came to light recently after St. Mary’s Ryken High School, a private school, built a new outdoor athletic stadium complete with an artificial turf field.
