Corporation Gets Naming Right for NYC Park

The struggling New York City Housing Authority is relying on the generosity of corporations to help build parks on its properties — and giving naming rights in return.
An 8,000 square foot grassy field at the Lillian Wald Houses in the East Village has been turned into an environmentally sensitive park that will open Monday with the name, Planters Grove Park.
The nut company, Planters, made a donation for the naming rights, though the amount hasn’t been disclosed.
One tenant, Walesca Quinones said she doesn’t mind the corporate name. “I like it. I got my children, and most of the time people really put the projects down. At least they have a good look now.”
