Lawmakers Eye Advertising on State Parks and Assets

If some lawmakers get their way, you might be seeing a lot more advertising of state transportation assets, parks and even school buses.
Bills filed this year in the Legislature are aimed at generating revenue through the sale of naming rights and ads. State Rep. Irv Slosberg, the House sponsor, suggests selling the naming rights of Florida’s Turnpike to a willing buyer.

As Slosberg notes, there are lots of signs along those 312 miles where Disney’s Mickey Mouse or the Geico gecko might hammer home the right message about a brand. He’s also proposed allowing school districts to sell ad space on buses and counties to come up with opportunities of their own. Daytona International Speedway Airport, anyone?
