Letter to SADD Regarding BusRadio

Dear Ms. Wells:

SADD’s partnership with BusRadio undermines the worthy mission of your organization.

BusRadio has a long-standing policy of playing artists known for sexual content and alcohol and illicit drug references in their lyrics.  Of course, offensive content is usually bleeped out, but the meaning is still communicated. When kids hear Nickelback singing, “Everybody has a … on speed dial, hey, I want to be a rockstar.” they’ll soon learn the missing words are “drug dealer.”

Impressionable children do not need BusRadio to introduce them to explicit content artists like Akon, Timbaland, Jay-Z, Diddy, Lupe Fiasco, Fergie, Andre 3000, The Used, Kanye West, Wu-Tang, T-Pain, Simple Plan, Shawty Lo, Baby Boy Da Prince, will.i.am and Lil’ Jon.

In 2006, a coalition of child advocates signed a letter that asked advertisers to remove their ads from Channel One and BusRadio.  Unfortunately, SADD is providing BusRadio something more important than ad revenue – respectability.

I hope SADD will reconsider their partnership with BusRadio.
