After Labor Day, Go Directly to Halloween

On Madison Avenue, it’s beginning to look a lot like Halloween. Weeks before Oct. 31, marketers, retailers and media companies are busily painting the town orange. They are festooning advertisements, stores, magazine covers and Web sites with panoplies of pumpkins, skeins of skeletons and gaggles of ghosts.
