National PTA's
Parent Involvement School Certification Receives
Support from Coca-Cola Enterprises, Inc.
Chicago, IL (May
12, 2003)—National PTA today announced
the addition of Coca-Cola Enterprises, Inc. as a
Proud Sponsor of its Parent Involvement Schools of
Excellence Certification. The Certification offers
parents, teachers, principals, students, and
communities the opportunity to evaluate their
school's parent involvement practices.
Participating schools can earn one of two
distinctions:
- The Certification of Excellence, for schools
that have outstanding parent involvement
practices in place.
- Recognition of Commitment, for schools that
are committed to pursuing excellence in parent
involvement.
Parent Involvement Schools
of Excellence Certification is based on National
PTA's six National Standards for Parent/Family
Involvement Programs, which have been endorsed by
nearly 100 education organizations and
universities. The National Standards are built
around the types of parent involvement identified
by Joyce L. Epstein, Ph.D., of Johns Hopkins
University.
"The certification was designed
to bring well-deserved recognition to good
parent-school-community partnerships," said
National PTA President Shirley Igo. "We know that
students whose parents are involved in their
education have an undeniable advantage, and every
child deserves to attend a school of
excellence."
Since Parent Involvement
Schools of Excellence Certification launched in
fall 2002, more than 200 schools have received
certification and hundreds more have begun the
registration process. Coca-Cola Enterprises, Inc.
will provide much-needed funding and help create
awareness, increased exposure, and additional
resources for this major initiative.
